To ensure we are working towards a fairer County Borough, and considering our duties to make sure everyone is treated equally, every four years we identify a set of strategic equality outcomes that we want to work towards. These are embedded within our Council Plan Priority outcomes.

Each outcome is linked to at least one of the protected characteristics; as defined by the Equality Act 2010 (external link). The Equality and Human Rights Commission provides an explanation for each of the protected characteristics:

Who has responsibility for the strategic equality outcomes?

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the Strategic Equality Plan lies with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team
  • Elected members have responsibility for overseeing the delivery of the Strategic Equality Plan and making sure that equality impacts are given proper consideration when making decisions about Council business. 
  • The Lead Member whose portfolio includes equality gives overarching support to the development and delivery of the plan.
