Church of England or Wales

If you are planning to get married in the Church of England or Wales you will need to speak to the vicar of your local parish church.

If the vicar is able to marry you they will arrange for the Banns to be read three Sundays before the day of your ceremony, or a common licence to be issued.

The marriage will be registered by the vicar and there is usually no need to involve our registration service.

Any other church or religious building

If you are planning to get married in any other church or religious building you will need to give notice of marriage at the registration office of the district in which you live.

The church or religious building must normally be in the registration district where you or your partner lives. You can only marry in a church in a different district to where you both live if either of you usually go to worship there.

You may also get married in another district if there is no building or religion in the district where you or the person you are marrying lives.

For some churches you may need to make your own arrangements for a registrar to attend the wedding, while some have their own registrar (an authorised person). If you need a registrar to attend your wedding, you should book this with us as far in advance as possible (contact our register office).

Civil partnerships can now be formed in a religious building if the premises has been approved by the local authority (check approved premises in Wrexham).
