Regulatory Activities

All works taking place in the highway are co-ordinated.

Utility road opening notices and inspections are recorded.

Street works licences are issued to individuals and organisations other than registered utility companies that require to make openings in the highway to connect to utility apparatus.

The Highways Act 1980 provides powers to keep highways open and unobstructed and the Highways Maintenance Division of the Transportation and Engineering Department enforces the Act.

The Act also requires the licensing of skips, scaffolds and hoardings positioned in the highway.
